izak's old birthday card

here is the reverse side of the card, i mentioned earlier. the idea was to graphically show where on the timeline we were. at the top end of the hopscotch there is not a representation of a tree moving in the wind, or four shallow sea creatures dancing around an anemone, but a waving hand of the winner exiting the overly emphasized problematic teen years.

izak is, if you ask me, very much like his father. there is ongoing discussion concerninghis physical features, of course, but here i refere above all to his ways, reactions, his temperament. so i passed on what my father gave me as the baptismal verse:

“don't let anyone make fun of you, just because you are young. set an example for other followers by what you say and do, as well as by your love, faith, and purity.“ (1 tim 4:12)

samuel's birthday

SLOVENŠČINA

several days ago, my younger brother had a birthday. as samuel is an artist, i always try to do my best for him. (as if i were not a perfectionist, anyway.) given that this was a last minute project, a sight of the a card i had made for izak long ago, that has been rediscovered recently, gave me the idea i needed. at the age of 41, one is probably old enough to dream of the impossibility of being 14 again.

i took a picture of the card. my goal was to use the ellipse cut-out only. because i am as yet limited to freeware, and what i discovered by my own use (no formal computer art education), the plan was to cover the surrounding area with white patches. as simple/complicated as that! nevertheless, i soon decided that the inversed figures are too much, so i started drawing a similar picture with the figures in the right sequence. but working at the late hours took away some of my sharpness, and i finally sent what i did not like the next day - round edges of the figures and somewhat monochromatic look. in the end i added “happy birthday“ (obviously typed backwards so as to mirror the the way the intended number is represented) and sent this also.

the moral: ideas are definitely above hard work.

shall we start?

well... sometimes i draw things. when my boys were small, i used drawing as a teaching tool as well as amusement.

sometimes, while preaching or teaching i will try to illustrate points to make them more interesting and easier to memorize.

since my wife is a lifelong children's sabbath school teacher and is presently leading a day care centre, i am happy to help her with inscriptions, and even wall paintings. most of my illustrations are from this field.

once, it occurred to me that i could go public, so here i will share my drawings and other art items with my friends and see how interested the public is. of course, i will enjoy reading your opinions and comments, and will gladly take a look at your work, if you are willing to share.

this blog can also give you a possibility to learn the skill of using programmes that i have used so far. i will show you the process visually, and give you directions on how to reach the desired result.

this is my first blog, so if you can help me in making it better, feel free.

p.s.

lili, i hope you will visit this site, and have a word. :)
